The poet Amy Lowell declares, “Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.” This quote embodies what I have always thought art to be, and has come to be so prevalent in my life. I believe that art is a tool of self expression and reaction, whether those reactions are happy, sad or angry. It is a tool of communication with our surrounding world of our own feelings and beliefs; to express to the world who we truly are and what we think about life. Literary artists use words to express themselves, but visual artists use paint, clay, pencil, and every other textile and artistic material one can think of as their words to the world.
